In support of their new album, ‘Worship’, Swedish death metal icons HYPOCRISY will embark on a headlining European tour this fall accompanied by SEPTICFLESH as the special guest, as well as THE AGONIST and HORIZON IGNITED as supports. The European Worship Tour consists of 37 shows in 17 countries and is planned between September 30th and November 12th.

Last Saturday night, we made our way to the prestigious METROPOOL in Enschede to witness a night full of metal. Starting the night off was HORIZON IGNITED. This band is the latest gem stone in the collection of the mighty Nuclear Blast Records. The band was formed in 2017 in Finland. However, the band has only been around for a short time, this Finish band is definitely not just another band that plays melodic death metal, they give their own twist to this genre. What this band has done well is that they wrote catchy songs. In addition, the energy on stage still gives you an uppercut from an unexpected angle.

After a short break and the venue filling up fast, THE AGONIST took over the stage to continue a night of powerful and aggressive music. This Canadian extreme death metal band has emerged from a solid sound and fan base since 2007. Unfortunately, that came to an end in 2014 when frontwoman Alissa White-Gluz left the band and joined Arch Enemy. The remaining gentlemen of The Agonist focused on looking for a sequel and found it in the American with Greek roots Vicky Psarakis.  Not only does she look good, in real life she sounds super friendly and sweet too. THE AGONIST pulls out all the stops, showcasing their skills in all directions with neck breaking melodies and staggeringly superb vocal approaches. After the performance the band made several chats with fans as they normally do after a gig.

SEPTICFLESH needs no introduction at all.  These Greek Gods from Athens made their entry under heavy blue lights, the band powered their way through their set with songs from their latest album ‘Modern Primitive’! The rolling riffs and roaring grunts accompanied with constant cheer and horns from the audience was the perfect utmost elation! ‘Neuromancer‘, a song where Greek melodies are incorporated, beautiful epic passages with clear vocals and crushing riffs. The audience was also delighted with classic masterpieces such as ‘Communion’, ‘Anubis’, ‘Dark Art’ and the ‘Vampire of Nazareth’! The real thunder came from Greece to The Netherlands with their immersive lyrics that evoke apocalyptic visions, colored with orchestral arrangements!

With the packed venue patiently waiting, the lights came down and the headliner of this evening HYPOCRISY took the stage over. This Swedish death metal band is finally back and with new music! The long-awaited 13th album ‘Worship’ was released last year. These gentlemen are known for their melodic riffs and great drum fills in combination with obscure lyrics. Lead singer and guitarist Peter Tägtgren orchestrated the chaos in the venue with his guttural vocals. The heavy, rich sound with catchy melodic riffs, crushing drum fills, obscure lyrics and versatile vocal parts are the signature style of this band. Hypocrisy is a straight up, no bullshit band that gives their fans exactly what they want. After the show they received an overwhelming response from the crowd. If you’ve missed this tour, they will be back on Dutch soil next year, July 29th 2023, at Stonehenge Festival!!
