Wednesday morning at 8 am, we set out for a long trip from The Netherlands to Schlotheim, Germany where the 19th edition of Party San took place. The first time for us and the trip started well with a little bit of sunshine and a little bit rain. As soon we reached eastern Germany the surroundings changed dramatically. We no longer travelled through flat land but we saw countryside hills and tavern-like houses until, at 2 pm, we arrived at the festival site, airport Obermehler. We took things easy the rest of the day. Exploring the surroundings and setting up camp on the VIP-camping. Thursday went by somewhat the same as Wednesday: taking things easy, because the show only started at 16.30. When the festival area opened its door I immediately noticed that the terrain was much smaller than Wacken, which I had visited the week before and when “Bombs Of Hades” started I noticed that the tuning of the sound was way better than I hd experienced at any other festival. Usually I need earplugs as soon as a band starts playing, but now I only needed earplugs when I got really close to the stage. I also noticed the difference in prices for the drinks. Here a 0,4 l cup of whatever type of beer / soda you prefer, only costs € 2,50 with € 1,00 deposit. Quite nice I might say.
Among Thursday’s headliners was Dutch thrash metal band “Legion Of The Damned” who, as always, did a good show, with some great fireworks. The only letdown was that Maurice's vocals faltered compared to the guitars. And German death metal band “Heaven Shall Burn”, who, according to the audience, also performed a great show with fireworks and the likes. Personally I did not really think the world of this band. After that, the people who didn’t feel like going to sleep could attend the Metaldisco in the tent until 3 am.
